The S-Classes That I Raised - Chapter 694: London, 24 Hours (2)
“Launch all drones!”
“Keep broadcasting portal locations—and no, use helicopters for evacuation!”
“We’ll keep running until the power cuts out.”
Communications were still up. Every station relayed real-time evacuation routes by district and situation updates. More than that:
“In front of Royal Hospital! Road’s jammed—if you’re close, go on foot. Police are organizing lines.”
“Mayfair Dolce & Gabbana shop—uh, that is, Goblin Door?”
“I’m Goblin! Yes, England’s Mr. Kim! How are you! I have no money in England but want that duck!”
Citizen livestreams filled every London nook. Sirens wailed; police cars and ambulances searched for those who couldn’t evacuate alone. Meanwhile, the air itself began to change.
“The mana concentration’s rising in the air—as if inside a dungeon. Time’s short. Under a hundred exits can’t handle nearly ten million people. Even if many flee by land, timing would be impossible.”
“Really okay to unleash everything?”
Yunyun glanced at Hangyeol. He looked up at the mini-Seong Hyunjae perched on his shoulder. Seong Hyunjae smiled and nodded.
“Don’t worry—plunder it all. I’ll take responsibility.”
“Then I’m off! First stop!”
In a blink, Yunyun vanished through space—and arrived at none other than:
“Children, the King has come!”
The British Museum, packed with artifacts from around the globe. Many items were ill-suited to become goblins, yet enough of them were used, enough were ancient. Standing among them, Yunyun shook her hanbok sleeves and spun in place.
“Wooden ladle goblins, jade ring goblins, broken jar goblins, golden crown goblins—all goblins, come forth! This way, that way—let’s have a grand feast!”
The Goblin King summoned them to play. Yawns echoed in the halls. Above and below, objects long unused in “exhibits” opened their eyes.
“Big ones, small ones, broken ones, intact ones, those rolled in fields, those wrapped in silk—whether in sky or earth, all are goblins! Join us again, creatures who danced with Mr. Kim! Sing, dance, appear and vanish—goblins for games, gather here!”
“A hole’s in my side!”
“Join me for tea, Mr. Kim!”
“I’m Chess! Let’s play chess!”
“Wahhh, blood on me! From a thousand years ago!”
The goblins gathered, swaying around the King’s dance. Yunyun raised her drumsticks high and continued:
“Goblins with teleport skills!”
“Me!”
“Me!”
“I have it too!”
A goblin’s power grows with age and human usage—so many here could teleport.
“My goblins, my subjects! The Mr. Kims of this district are in danger.”
Yunyun turned serious.
“The Mr. Kims?”
“I’m not from here. My home’s far away.”
“But it’s dangerous.”
“Scared? Bleeding?”
“Shh, shh!”
With a great flourish, Yunyun roared on:
“Teleport-skilled goblins—spread across every corner of London and link the Goblin Doors! Other goblins will open portals too! You know this town’s layout, yes?”
“Me, me! I’m the lost map goblin—nobody’s found me!”
A tiny goblin shot up his hand.
“Although old, I still have map skills!”
“Excellent! Map goblin, share it! Goblins without teleport must go via Goblin Doors to villages—too dangerous! Teleport goblins, beware monsters—flee at once if threatened!”
“Fear not, Your Majesty! They can’t catch us!”
“We may not fight, but we escape well~”
“If we party well, they say they’ll throw a feast when we reach our village—Commander Kim will buy whatever we want!”
“Well, I love feasts!”
The goblins giggled and left the museum. Yunyun stretched and gulped a mana potion.
“Time to plunder the other museums too!”
Fewer than a hundred exits exploded as new ones. Lights flickered as portals sprang up all over the city.
“In order, in order—!”
“Elderly and infirm first! No cars—leave them behind!”
Lines formed before Goblin Door portals. Most were non-Awakened, but some Awakened mingled. A few Hunters volunteered to stay behind, while many more hesitated. Senior Hunters, above all, balked at the rapid updates.
‘They say it will resemble Japan’s scenario.’
‘Even A-Rank is dangerous; S-Rank and SS-Rank may appear.’
‘Before an SS, A or F rank hardly differs—should I stay?’
‘Maybe mid-Ranks can flee.’
Those who fled would bypass non-Awakened and escape fastest. Then, above the Thames near the London Eye, the sky rippled. A section bled gray as if drained of color, forming a rift.
—Brrr!
“It’s a monster!”
A golden beak slashed the air, red feathered wings unfurled. An A-Rank upper dungeon boss, the Golden-Beaked Maiya. An A-Rank, but boss-level and thus quasi-S-Rank: a fire-weathering flying beast. In the city, it posed an S-Rank threat.
As drones and cameras homed in, panic rising:
—Grrr!
A deeper growl thundered across the heavens. From the Goblin Door burst a coal-black shadow that swooped and engulfed the golden-beaked beast.
—Skree!
Crunch! Razor fangs sank into the monster’s neck. Claws shredded feathers before the beast was dropped into water without a chance to react. A long black wing skimmed the surface; blood and red feathers bobbed up.
A midnight wyrm, Spined-Wing Black Dragon Comet. Atop it, Kang Soyeong rose. Her long blonde hair tied in a single braid fluttered like a banner.
“Witness this!”
Her clarion cry echoed far and wide over London via every broadcast.
“I am A-Rank Hunter Dragon Knight Kang Soyeong—Ella Rose Hill!”
—Brrrkt!
Another monster crossed space to appear—but froze upon facing Comet. Feather and scale met over the Thames. Kang Soyeong raised her voice again:
“Who will join me? Hunters of London, knights of Britain! Do not hesitate to wade into the mire! This is now a dungeon, and where dungeons are, Hunters must be!”
In her hand gleamed a spear. The beast, fixated on Comet, did not notice when she thrust her spear. The Dragon Rider’s charge, augmented by an S-Rank dragon’s stats—
Crack!
It pierced the boss’s neck, embedding deep. As the monster fell, the Black Dragon’s roar stretched long across the river.
“Our lives blossom even in mud!”
Though affiliated with Korea’s Sesung Guild, Dragon Knight Kang Soyeong—Britain’s own—was famed at home. Young, not yet S-Rank, she nonetheless fought alongside Comet as a peer of S-Ranks by guild decree.
Britain’s adored young Dragon Knight.
Kang Soyeong lifted a new spear high; pale sunlight pierced the pall.
“…It’s a dungeon.”
A Hunter watching readied their weapon from inventory.
“No different from a dungeon raid—prepare!”
“I’m mid-Rank, but better than non-Awakened.”
“I’ve joined A-Rank raids before.”
Even as some quietly slipped away, more hefted weapons.
“My Roseee!!”
Someone leapt atop the riverside railing. Kang Soyeong’s scowl deepened.
“Not ‘Ella’—I changed my name! What are you doing, Team? Where are Mum and Dad?!”
The younger Hill boy waved broadly with a grin.
“I brought them along, Sister! Our Soyeong is the best!”
“Team, come quickly!”
Kang Soyeong clicked her tongue and circled overhead as if on patrol. Her awakened siblings were all A-Rank except one younger mid-Rank; only the third born was S-Rank.
“Even though you’ve seen me recently, spare me the formalities!”
She grumbled, but a smile lingered. With the Dragon Rider perks bolstered by Comet’s stats, she saw more Hunters gearing up. Even through her comm link:
‘A bit embarrassing, but feels great!’
Hunters must hold out until everyone’s clear—the natural urge to flee is strong. Hence Seong Hyunjae’s request to Kang Soyeong: the girl whose spirit could galvanize British Hunters. When asked, “What should we do?” she answered: “Follow your heart.” So Kang Soyeong shouted.
Dragons are supreme—knights and Hunters alike!
“I’ll be the coolest one too!”
—Rargh!
Comet roared in agreement. Kang Soyeong steadied her weapon as the sky shuddered once more. The battle began.
“Monsters are still slow to appear! Just one more sighted on the ground—ugh!”
Boom! The ground quaked. Someone steadied a staggering reporter, then caught his nearly dropped camera.
“We should evacuate him—he’s non-Awakened.”
“But we need to report on monster spawns!”
“I’m a reporter «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» too.”
He offered a card: P.P. P smiled, focusing his lens on a Hunter vs. monster standoff.
“Glad I swung by England on my way to SF. More photos than video, but today I’ll mix it up.”
London, a world city, under attack—but all civilians evacuate safely under Hunters’ protection. This was an unmissable story. Mid- and lower-Rank Hunters also helped. Even goblins appeared.
‘And for the future.’
As P could not predict the world’s trajectory, he knew only this: it would be a platform. He vaulted onto a building.
“Hello, I’m P. The European Hunter Association Hunters are heading to London—”
—Screech!
“Dungeonization is progressing around Trafalgar Square.”
The ground darkened like a shadow overlaid. Fountains dried; buildings dissolved—only remnants remained. Like civilizations trapped in dungeons, eons amassed in moments: roads sprouted grasses; power and comms halted.
“Argh!”
A terrified man huddled inside his home fell through the floor—almost hitting the ground.
“Got you!”
A goblin snatched him. Smiling, it beckoned:
“Quick, Mr. Kim! It’s unsafe here!”
With more portals and Hunters actively aiding, evacuation sped up. Jets appeared above busy evacuation helicopters—not to fight monsters. Hunters from France and Belgium parachuted in.
Thud, thud! Landing thumps echoed.
“Evacuation’s well underway.”
—Screech!
From Yunyun’s Goblin Door soared a golden griffin, with Evelyn mounted on its back.
“Millions rushing in at once—chaotic, but national Hunter associations are cooperating, so no budget issues. Plenty to requisition too.”
Having heard from Myung-woo, Hangyeol—who’d been in the U.S.—and Yunyun returned to Korea to set evacuation coordinates. Although only he returned, Yunyun’s long-range teleport made Korea reachable immediately. They quickly established safe zones in Korea and sent goblins through gates.
“No monsters can enter the gates, correct?”
Another S-Rank Hunter emerged through a Goblin Door: Park Minkyoo, Han-shin Guildmaster. Hangyeol, half descended, replied:
“Any untamed monsters—we confirmed they can’t.”
“We once captured an A-Rank to test.”
“Then we’re safe—ugh?!”
Mini-Seong Hyunjae on Hangyeol’s shoulder waved at Minkyoo. Evelyn drew her bow and turned.
“Annoying.”
Evelyn and Blue departed; Minkyoo shook off surprise.
“The… Sesung—”
“Really. Haven’t you heard of shrinking skills or items?”
“…Still.”
Seeing a tiny boy on Hangyeol’s shoulder felt odd. Minkyoo shook his head and advanced. He must guard the crucial Goblin Door.
“I’m better than rookie S-Rank.”
He activated a defense skill confidently. A monster screeched nearby.
“Flying types first!”
Kang Soyeong commanded. If protecting civilians, flying monsters were most menacing. Comet grasped a smaller drake with four legs. Sliding across black scales, Kang Soyeong seized Comet’s neck and spun to plunge her spear into the drake’s throat.
—Kyeaak!
Another monster’s shriek rose—the spawn rate was accelerating. Climbing atop Comet’s back, Kang Soyeong looked up.
Skree!
Thick arrows cleaved the sky. Boom! Like missiles, explosions rang out—boom, boom, boom! Rapid volleys struck monsters, detonations peppering the air.
—Kiuuuk!
Blue wagged its head at Comet as if greeting.
“Still only A-Rank?”
“A-Rank boss, though!”
Before she finished, the air convulsed again.
“What’s that saying—‘It’s a party on the day you go’?”
“I don’t know Korean proverbs well, but sounds wrong.”
“Ah, words become reality!”
—Grrrrrr.
Splash! A massive paw slammed the Thames. Water sprayed the next monster. A huge bear-like beast shook its head—thick hide, bulky frame. As it prepared to roar:
“Hello~!”
A tiny figure appeared above it—and then—
Boom!
—Kreaargh!
“Bear, hey~.”
A colossal black dragon crushed the monster mercilessly. It thrashed, but couldn’t withstand the spreading poison and impenetrable spined scales.
“Dragons truly reign!”
From afar, Hangyeol’s eyes widened at the sight of the black dragon. If Riette had come—
“Dad!”
Hangyeol scanned around. The space nearby rippled, splitting wide as blue willow leaves drifted in. Han Yuhyun appeared, stepping lightly on leaves; then Park Yerim glided out, and fiery mane-horned lion Peace caught Hangyeol’s gaze.
“Dad!”
Han Yujin sat astride Peace. Han Yuhyun in front, Yerim beside, Noah with golden wings behind, formed a protective circle. Hangyeol dashed to Han Yujin, who opened her arms to hug him.
“You okay? Any injuries?”
“I’m safe.”
“Not you, him!”
Patting Hangyeol, Han Yujin looked out over London as portals flickered everywhere.
“For Han Yujin, Director!”
Shi-Shi-Oh and Han Yujin’s sub-team Hunters appeared one after another, fully armed with Chatterbox gear.
