How did he recognize me… my, my Peace is amazing! No sooner had that thought crossed my mind than

“Grrr.”

Peace bared his teeth at me. P–Peace. It’s daddy, it’s daddy. Peace nudged my neck with his snout—exactly where Eunhye rests. Then he rumbled again, a warning growl.

‘Could it be… he thinks I’m a thief?’

With perfect transformation, my scent must have changed. But Eunhye would still carry my human smell. In other words, to Peace I’m a stray cat who stole his daddy’s belongings…

“Ack!”

Peace bit down on Eunhye and tugged. W-wait, Peace! I shoved at his head with my forepaw and looked around. I was in an alley, but close to the entrance—too visible. I couldn’t revert here. It’d ruin the surprise.

“Grrk!”

“Meowk!”

I kicked at Peace with my hind legs, but he didn’t budge. At least he couldn’t dislodge Eunhye from his jaws. Yuhyun and Yerim must have followed me when I vanished; seeing a cat sprint off with my belongings must’ve alerted them. Our Peace truly is a genius.

“Wyaaaang!”

Daddy! It’s me, daddy! I tried, but a cat’s vocal cords can’t mimic human speech. Maybe because I’m low-rank, I can’t form words like Noah or Riet. Peace, you mustn’t bully weaker animals.

I gave up pushing him away and instead stuck out my tongue. It felt gross, but I clenched my eyes and licked Peace’s paw that pinned me. Fur… ugh.

“Krrng.”

Peace flinched. Yes, Peace. I want to be friends with you. I love you so much, please understand, my eyes pleaded. I blinked slowly, trying to seem harmless. Please let me go. I’ll slip inside and revert to my original form. Peace, who had been staring down at me, then…

“Nyah!”

For some reason he licked my face at length, then snapped his teeth at my nape. Peace, no way! Before I knew it, Peace flung me—

“Myakyok!”

He tossed me through the air. Blue and Comet flickered before my eyes as I spun. Yes, Peace. You’ve recognized me. How sweet…

A building wall rushed toward me. My body spun and landed lightly on all fours on the ground. Wow, item effects really are good. I was admiring my graceful landing when Peace charged again. Gah, wait!

‘Wasn’t there some sort of initiation ritual?’

Panicking, I darted farther into the alley. Maybe Blue had just been mistaken. Anyway, Peace, Peace!

“Daddy! It’s daddy!”

I dashed into a hidden nook unseen from outside or above and dispelled my skill. Peace, who’d been chasing me, came to a halt.

“Grrh.”

“It’s me, daddy, I’m daddy.”

Peace tilted his head, then rubbed his cheek along my leg. He can’t speak, so he won’t know I’m discovered. Peace, watch closely, I transformed back into the young Delowz. Peace cocked his head again. Now, I’m the daddy.

“Meow.”

I’m still not great at cat noises. Maybe better to keep my mouth closed. Peace tilted his head once more and swished his tail.

“Kiiang!”

He leapt, rolled on the ground, then flattened himself before me. He seemed delighted. Yes, Peace. It’s me, daddy.

“Kuuuung.”

Stop, stop! Peace pounced and covered me, licking vigorously. Yikes, Peace! Your fur is soaking wet! I twisted free and tried to escape, but he bounded after me like a game of tag.

“Kyaung!”

“Nyah!”

Stop! I shouted with all my might, but Peace head-butted me and I tumbled. His golden eyes glinted, teeth bared in what I knew was a playful grin—Peace!

“Garrlng!Kiiang!”

He licked me again. Ugh, ugh, Peace—

More importantly, I need to get to the island, to the island! I pressed his snout down with my forepaw until he let go. Then, as if reading my mind, he shifted into his adult form.

“Grrr.”

He’s going to carry me? He wouldn’t count riding me as theft… If he did, I’d protest. I climbed onto his back and nestled into his mane where no one would see unless they searched him. Once I settled, Peace unfurled his wings and soared upward. I wondered if he knew where to go—would he head to Yuhyun? Thankfully, he set a straight course toward the island.

How does one send messages to Peace? I’m curious.

“Hey, Peace! Peace!”

Someone shouted. Judging by the proximity, they were a hunter with a flight skill. Peace ignored them. Then suddenly—

Poeung—!

A deafening blast of water shot up. Peace halted mid-flight. I peeked out.

‘…Wow.’

Far off in Central Park, a colossal pillar of ice had erupted. It gleamed in the sunlight, rivaling buildings in height. Yerim… you’re the best.

‘She’s helping me, isn’t she?’

If someone makes such a conspicuous move, it’s usually to protect me. Hunters would converge there—and the park’s lake would minimize damage. I hoped Yuhyun and Director Song were already there. It’d be great if they pinned down Seong Hyunjae too.

‘They might recognize me.’

If they’re perceptive, they could realize this cat is the Delowz they met. I must avoid them.

“Iyaung.”

Peace, I called. He turned back toward the island. Carefully I checked below, then tapped Peace just before we reached the island. He circled, seemingly unsure, then descended close to the water. Good job.

“Peace!”

Someone else shouted. Peace sure is popular. Using the sleek suction skill, I clung to Peace’s body and descended. Hiding as best I could, I slid underwater toward the island.

‘Ugh.’

Before the current carried me away, I reverted to human and pulled out my underwater movement item. Because of that Chatterbox jerk, what a hassle. I practically walked underwater until I reached the island.

“Ar…rived!”

And it was even before ten o’clock! Thanks to Peace, I had plenty of time. He circled above and then came to me.

“Big brother!”

Mun Hyun-ah ran up. I spotted Noah behind her.

“You arrived safely?”

“Yes. Although I’m drenched.”

“We were first, right?”

Mun Hyun-ah wrapped her arm around Noah’s neck, laughing. He smiled sheepishly.

“We left as soon as we saw the message.”

So there isn’t a hunter trailing Noah. I wrung out my clothes and glanced around—about ten hunters were here.

“That’s quite a group. I thought I’d be late because I was chasing you.”

One hunter shrugged.

“I’m not one to enjoy tormenting kids for rewards.”

“…Excuse me?”

“I do want SS-rank weapons, but I have some pride.”

Another hunter chimed in. Pride? They wouldn’t easily reconsider their assumptions, but still.

“His stats are F-rank, but he is small.”

I subconsciously frowned. Mun Hyun-ah spoke quietly.

“In this area people are taller—I guess they feel bad tormenting someone who looks like a little kid. They said you look like a lordling’s younger brother.”

What? Why would they think I’m Yuhyun’s kid brother?

“I’m his older brother. And my age is—”

“Emma, didn’t you get a photo of ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) your nephew? Show us!”

Mun Hyun-ah pulled up a photo on her phone. A large man with scattered hair was grinning.

“He’s sixteen.”

“……”

“The lordling’s tall and built, and so is Noah. They mix up Western faces too, so they judge by size.”

I see. Still, my age is… thirty. Feeling uneasy, I took out the Dodam Breeding Center towel and dried myself. Spotting a camera pointing my way, I waved it so the center’s embroidery was visible.

‘At least these guys are relatively moderate.’

I memorized the faces of the hunters who arrived before us as we walked deeper into the island. They might be more dangerous than Ceaseless kids—at least they’d respond calmly to any taunts.

‘An island only reachable by passing the city and taking a boat. Easy to isolate.’

Without flight or mounts, it’d take time. Ferries were probably halted for safety. Yet they prepared transport quickly and arrived in record time. They’re resourceful, too.

“It looks cold. There’s a shop over there. I’ll get you a warm drink.”

Noah offered his towel and spoke. The river wind was biting—I’d bill Chatterbox if I got sick.

“Noa! Noa!”

Over the roar of water, Kang Soyeong shouted from atop the head of the Black Dragon that parted the river. Riet disembarked beside her; water cascaded off her scales. Behind them I saw the boat—news of my arrival must’ve been broadcast because other hunters started landing.

“Uncle! Did you see?”

Excited, Yerim swooped down carrying a resigned Director Song; Yuhyun crossed on the Blue Willow.

“Your livestream would’ve been a hit!”

“First get Director Song down, please.”

“You’ll catch a cold, brother.”

“Did you really swim across the river?”

“No strength for that. But I saw it—it was incredible.”

Yuhyun, Yerim, and Director Song all pulled out their breeding center towels. Everyone carries one. I wondered if Seong Hyunjae would arrive by boat.

We wiped ourselves off and walked deeper. The island was desolate from monster attacks. Apart from the dungeon building, a concession stand, and a half-ruined dock, nothing remained. Supposedly it used to be a tourist spot.

“The dungeon’s break rate has dropped recently, and Governors Island has found peace,” a broadcaster explained on camera.

“The dungeon here is A-rank, and over there you can see the Korean hunters.”

They requested an interview, but I refused. I had to dry my clothes before the ten o’clock broadcast. The stand was still open, though probably not selling clothes.

“They say there’s also illegal trading here,” Noah said quietly.

“The New York hunter black market is huge.”

There was a smaller black market in Korea too. I glanced at Director Song—had he heard?

Soon the last hunter arrived. Seong Hyunjae and Gyeol came by boat with Evelyn’s team. I avoided his golden gaze. I hoped no cat fur stuck to me—“nyah” might give me away.

Tatatatata—

A helicopter appeared again overhead as the hunters settled. The prop wash kicked up, and Chatterbox disembarked, feigning an ordinary human as his coat fluttered. At the same time, the closed dungeon doors swung open.

“Hunter Han Yujin.”

Chatterbox called cheerfully, his false excitement so natural.

“Congratulations on arriving safely. You never disappoint.”

“…Thank you.”

Smile, I told myself. The hunter with Chatterbox handed me three gold coins and a small box.

“Now, then.”

Chatterbox checked his watch.

“It’s ten o’clock.”

  • Peace!
  • as expected hyj’s livestream

A small window popped up with chat messages scrolling. What is this? There were no announcements about livestreaming. Flustered, I looked at the window. Thankfully there was an on/off toggle and a block function. So…

    “U…hello.”

I managed an awkward greeting. Where should I look? Why can’t I see my own video?

  • Hi!
  • 🙂
  • Hello!
  • Only Peace’s daddy, lol

What do I do? I couldn’t speak because I was fixated on the running comments. Streaming isn’t so easy, I realized.
