Chapter 182: City of Death

When Ye Mo returned to his cave in the Spirit Mountain, he opened up a secret compartment in the wall of the cave, hiding his Sky Blood Spear’s spearhead. The handle of the Sky Blood Spear was broken, hence he had to hide the spearhead first. Carrying around a broken Sky Blood Spear with him would no doubt attract suspicions.
Just as Ye Mo prepared to leave the cave, Li Suifeng, Ling Xue, and Tong Qian met up with him.
“Ye Mo, our potential-testing missions have arrived – killing armored spirits in the City of Death. What about you?” Ling Xue was excited as she spoke. They had already been in the Qingyun League for quite a number of days and were excited that they could finally start working on missions.
“What? All of your missions are also to slaughter armored spirits and collect their spirit essences at the City of Death?”
Ye Mo’s tone was not only filled with surprise, but also with a hint of anger. He did not expect that Yun Shan not only wanted to sabotage him, but also drag down Li Suifeng and his companions. They were all in the Energy Shaping First Realm. Heading towards the ancient battleground, they would do well to just protect themselves.
Judging from the expressions on their faces, it appeared that they were not aware of what was going on.
“Why, Ye Mo? Is everything alright?” asked Tong Qian.
“This is what I know. I heard that in the City of Death, the weakest armored spirits are all in the Energy Shaping First Realm. I heard that the strongest armored spirits are even in the True Energy Realm,” said Ye Mo.
“What? The weakest armored spirits still reaching Energy Shaping First Realm? Why would the Qingyun League assign this mission to us? This isn’t a test of potential – this is as good as a death sentence,” said Ling Xue furiously.
“Yun Shan must be behind all this.”
Ye Mo frowned slightly before laughing mockingly. “Since he wants to do this, let’s fulfill his wishes and let him think that we are there to die. We will finish slaughtering enough armored spirits and amass sufficient league points, and then we shall see the look on his face. That sounds much more interesting.”
“Ye Mo, can we really finish the mission?” Ling Xue asked, surprised. While she had plenty of faith in Ye Mo’s powers, Ling Xue was still rather worried. The City of Death was not the same as the Unbreakable Mountain.
“Of course. I took a look at the City of Death’s map report – it is located in a desert. Rumor has it that all the strong fighters in the City of Death have been massacred, with none spared. Those people from the ancient city have all since been revived, becoming armored spirits. The stronger armored spirits are all inside the city, the weaker ones outside. Furthermore, there are not a lot of them. So long as we don’t enter the city, there will be no problems.”
As Ye Mo finished speaking, he noticed the hesitant expressions of the three of them. He could not help but say, “I’ll tell you all the truth. That day, I didn’t actually get injured by the Long Armed Ape Monkey King to that extent. I inflicted the injury upon myself. The Monkey King had already died in my hands.”
“You killed the Long Armed Ape Monkey King? How is that possible?” The three of them were extremely stunned.
“There’s nothing impossible about that. My strength can only be elevated during battle. I wasn’t the Monkey King’s match before, but as my strength increased, I became capable enough to kill it,” said Ye Mo calmly.
“That is simply insane. Ye Mo, I’m guessing that you could automatically be promoted to become an Inner League member based on your current strength. Immediately entering the Inner League upon entering the Qingyun League itself – how crazy is that!” commented Li Suifeng.
“It is not that simple. Let’s cut the nonsense and start our preparation before we head to the City of Death.”
“Okay!”
Deciding to follow Ye Mo, the three of them did not say anything further. Heading towards the City of Death was a good training opportunity, and they could potentially take advantage of the opportunity to make a breakthrough.
Ye Mo did not know the actual physical location of the Qingyun League. They exited the league via a Transportation Formation, which sent them to the forest that was located beside the desert.
This Magical Formation was placed by the masters of the Qingyun League beforehand to allow for more convenient movement for the Qingyun League members going in and out of the league.
“This Transportation Formation is indeed convenient. If I knew how to cultivate these seals, I would place one in the Xiao Clan and my cave. That will allow me to rush back to the Xiao family any time I wanted to,” Ye Mo wandered to himself, sighing.
“It is not that easy. If you want to cultivate a Transportation Formation, you need to reach the standards of a master sealing artist. You are nowhere near that realm yet,” said Ling’er.
This Magical Formation was extremely well hidden. As Ye Mo and company stepped out of the forest, a golden desert was before their eyes. As wild winds roared, layers of yellow sand flew up, causing a loud hissing sound.
In the distance was an ancient city covered by dark clouds. The city area was majestic, and above the city walls were armored soldiers. However, the soldiers had all been turned to stone, so they resembled stone statues.
Another wave of wild winds blew past the four of them. Under their feet, they could see bones, damaged armor, and abandoned weapons – even magical weapons could be seen here.
“There are even magical weapons here – looks like a large scale battle may have happened here. It is a shame that they were all buried in the desert. There is a long spear over there.”
Ye Mo rushed towards it, picking up the long spear. Its physical appearance was normal looking, its grip not even comparable to that of the Sky Blood Spear. However, it was the best the weapon Ye Mo could find at the time.
The four of them glided across the desert, their speed faster than running. They reached the bottom of the city wall within a few seconds.
Suddenly, layers of dust rose and rolled like waves of an ocean as rows of armored spirits sprung out from the desert. These armored spirits all held metal swords and shields with grey helmets on their heads. There was nothing inside their armors but a pair of purple eyes, an extremely creepy sight.
These were the most common armored spirits had purple eyes, thus givine them their name: purple-eyed armored spirits. These purple-eyed armored spirits’ strength levels were between Energy Shaping First Realm and Energy Shaping Third Realm.
A tier above them were the red-eyed armored spirits. Besides the difference in the spirits’ eyes, the red-eyed armored spirits’ armor was more elegant; their strength levels were between Energy Shaping Fourth Realm and Sixth Realm.
The white-eyed armored spirits were the tied above the red-eyed armored spirits. With a pair of white eyes, their strength levels were between the Energy Shaping Seventh Realm and Ninth Realm. They were considered to be the equivalent of lieutenant generals in the ancient city.
The strongest armored spirits were the golden-eyed, red-armored spirits, with their strength level reaching the True Energy Realm.
These armored spirits were all decent fighters before they died. Still being able to display their martial techniques, and adding on their lack of fear towards pain, they made for extremely aggressive opponents.
“Oh no, we are surrounded by armored spirits!”
Cautiously looking at the surroundings, Tong Qian’s face was filled with fear. The armored spirits that had sprung out of the desert had stronger auras than them, and there were more than 10 of them, thus outnumbering their group.
Every step taken by the armored spirits was accompanied by a creaking sound, filled with a strongly pressurized aura.
“All trespassers of the Skylight Light shall die!” One of the armored spirit said, swinging the giant knife in its hand and sending a sharp light blade towards Ye Mo and company.
