Chapter 1633: Accident
Pei Ge had never known that Ji Miao’s family was this secretive. She did not even know that the so-called father of hers drowned back when she was just one year old.
“Ji Miao has a younger sister called Ji Hao. These two sisters have interesting names.”
Ji Ziming stood at the side while looking at the document in Pei Ge’s hands. He had already received all the information about this pair of sisters before she got hold of it. However, as he wanted to surprise her, he proceeded to tease her first.
“Did you just say that she left the company?”
Pei Ge directly ignored the useless bits he had said and caught on to the point of Ji Miao having resigned.
“Yes.”
The man seemed to be keener on teasing her, and his smile made the woman feel more flustered.
“You’re smiling like this, so does it mean that you’ve caught her?”
She understood him well and knew that he would not do things half-assed. Even when he was unsure, he would do his best to accomplish something; moreover, lady luck was seemingly always on his side.
“No, I didn’t stop her; I am speaking the truth.”
He showed her his palms as his smile became more radiant, watching her as she grew more confused.
“Then, why are you still smiling… I know now.”
She quickly thought of something. With how he was smiling, he must have some news regarding Ji Miao. Even if he did not stop her, he must still have information about her.
“You are right.”
He sat down beside her. The cold aura around him was replaced by gentleness at this point.
“Then, what are we waiting for? Let’s quickly get her.”
She stood up, wanting to meet the woman to confront her.
“Are you sure that you want to go now? We might need some time.”
He looked up at her. This was his first time looking up at her from such a close distance.
“It’s fine. I don’t care about this bit of time as long as I can bring her back.”
She was righteous and insistent, but by the time she fully understood what the bit of time the man mentioned was, they had already been on the road for almost five hours.
“Why are we not taking the plane?!”
She shouted with no tears left to cry while sitting in the backseat.
“Because you said that you didn’t care and wanted to take the car.”
Ji Ziming sat beside her and leaned back against the seat peacefully while looking at the document in his hands. He was presently going through the shareholdings of the Ji Group in small companies over the past half a year, checking those making profits and those incurring losses.
“You didn’t tell me that it’s going to take this long.”
There were beads of cold sweat on her face. She had not realized that the time she spoke of and the time he mentioned would be this different. It felt as though they were not on the same frequency or even living on the same planet.
“You didn’t ask me.”
He pushed all responsibility to her, making He Yun be unable to hide his smile. It was clear that his boss had already calculated the time required for Ji Miao to get caught in their trap in H City’s railway station and so purposely wasted some time on the road.
“Madam, wait a little more; we will be there soon.”
He reassured her but received a dagger-like stare from his boss, instead. Hence, he quickly shut his mouth.
“Sit properly. If you feel frustrated, just lie on my lap and take a nap.”
Ji Ziming looked at Pei Ge and freed up the space on his lap. He pressed a button on the back of the seat, and a small table in front of him descended, where he placed all his documents.
“But I—”
Seeing how proactive he was, she decided to stop talking. Blinking her eyes, she thought of her three children at home and felt a little worried. This was their first time meeting their home tutor. She did not know whether they could get used to the person or not.
“What’s wrong?”
He looked at her, seeing how refused to lean on him and even stopped complaining about how long the ride was.
“I am worrying about the three children.”
She calmly spoke her thoughts. The desolation on her face made his heart ache a little.
“Don’t worry. Auntie Zhang should’ve fed them dinner and they should be preparing to sleep soon.”
He lowered his head after saying this to flip through the documents. He had to finish going through these before they went back to the capital. In this way, he could then have time to share with her all his feelings and his forbearance once they returned.
“Really? How do you know?”
She frowned, her beautiful eyes filled with disbelief at him.
“Trust me. Nothing will happen to even a strand of their hair.”
She felt less worried after hearing his reassurance. As long as the three children were fine, she could continue focusing on her task of finding Ji Miao.
After driving for a while more, the car soon reached the railway station in H City. At the same time, Ji Miao, who was hiding in the washroom of the station, counted down the time. As long as she boarded the train, she would be a step further away from the capital.
When she returned to the countryside, no one would know what she did to the company. Also, no one would know whether Ji Hao was still alive in this world or not.
“Let’s get off.”
Ji Ziming eyed his watch. The time was just right. If they were even a little bit later, he might have to let Ji Miao truly board the train and leave H City.
“Mhm.”
Pei Ge nodded. Now, she was entirely listening to his orders. How could she not believe in him? No matter where he was, as long as he was by her side, she would not lose the sunlight and hope to continue treading her path.
Their group walked into the waiting hall of the railway station. To her surprise, she found not a shadow inside. It appeared as if the whole railway station was a mere shell.
“Ziming, why is there not a soul here?”
Her impression of railway stations had always been bustling and teeming with people from all walks of life. Today, though, even she felt a little flustered.
“There will be people coming out in another half an hour.”
He chuckled, because in ten more minutes, it would be the time for Ji Miao to board the train.
“Oh.”
Pei Ge pondered for a moment. Even if she knew how huge and wide the man’s network was, she still did not expect for everyone in this railway station to be cleared out minutes before they arrived.
“Is Ji Miao here?”
She asked, watching as the people behind brought over two chairs, which were even made from phoebe zhennan wood.
