Creak-

As the door slowly swung open, Ling Mo awoke.

“Ah!”

He sat up abruptly, exhaling deeply. After a momentary daze, he regained his senses and instinctively looked toward the doorway.

Empty…

The door was wide open, yet there was no one outside. It continued to sway gently, as if someone had just brushed against it.

“What… is going on?”

Ling Mo shook his groggy head and glanced around the room.

This was a completely unfamiliar place, and judging by the furniture and decor, it didn’t resemble a typical residential room. Besides him, there was no one else here…

On the bedside table sat a glass of water, still warm to the touch when Ling Mo reached for it.

“Where is everyone? Where’s Ye Lian…”

Ling Mo wondered, struggling to get out of bed.

“How long have I been asleep…”

He stretched his limbs, feeling a bit weak.

From the current situation, he must have been asleep for at least a day… Otherwise, how would he wake up in such a place?

“I remember… the helicopter came, right…”

Ling Mo slowly walked to the window, peering through a narrow gap.

Outside was shrouded in gloom, with buildings obscured by thick shadows, their outlines barely discernible from afar. Ling Mo blinked hard, but still couldn’t see clearly.

“Is it nighttime…”

Apart from the poor visibility, the silence was overwhelming. Not a human sound, not even the whisper of the wind.

With nothing gained from looking outside, he decided to venture out.

Ling Mo sensed something was amiss. Staying inside wasn’t an option.

He cautiously approached the doorway, peering out.

The corridor was pitch black, with no sign of anyone around.

“Is anyone there?” Ling Mo called out, unwilling to give up.

After a few seconds, there was no response, making the silence even more pronounced.

In this vast building, everything seemed normal, yet there was no sign of life.

Ling Mo furrowed his brow and proceeded down the corridor.

Moments later, he spotted a staircase. But before he could examine it closely, a soft creak echoed from above.

“Who’s there?”

Ling Mo froze, then quickly grabbed the railing and rushed up.

But when he reached the top of the stairs, there was no one in sight.

The corridor was empty, with doors on both sides tightly shut.

This reminded Ling Mo of his own door… Could the person who opened his door and the one who vanished here be the same?

“Who’s there? Show yourself!”

Ling Mo stood still for a moment, suddenly feeling a surge of irritation.

What on earth is going on?!

Just as he impatiently took a couple of steps forward, he caught sight of something on the floor out of the corner of his eye.

Ling Mo quickly moved closer to take a better look. He dipped his finger into it and brought it up to his eyes for examination.

“Is this… blood?”

Indeed, what was left on the floor were small traces of blood…

And judging by the consistency, this blood was quite fresh.

“No virus scent… Did someone get hurt?”

Ling Mo looked down at the floor and noticed the blood trail turned a corner ahead and then extended deeper into the corridor.

After pondering for a moment, he decided to follow the blood trail quietly.

He hadn’t gone far when the trail ended at a door. Ling Mo pressed himself against the wall and slowly moved closer, extending his Tentacle towards the doorknob.

At that moment, he faintly heard a sound coming from behind the door.

“Huff… huff…”

The sound was muffled, as if someone was trying to suppress their heavy breathing.

Realizing someone was inside, Ling Mo became more cautious. He gently turned the doorknob while taking a deep breath.

“Click!”

As the door swung open, Ling Mo darted inside, his Tentacle already aimed at the person’s psychic light cluster.

The person was clearly startled, but just as they jumped up, Ling Mo’s Tentacle had already struck their head, causing them to feel dizzy. In that moment, Ling Mo was already behind them, wrapping an arm tightly around their neck.

“Ahhh…” The person screamed in terror.

Ling Mo, standing behind them, demanded sharply, “Who are you?”

“Please! Don’t kill me!” The person trembled all over, almost instinctively pleading.

Ling Mo frowned in confusion. This voice… Why does it sound so familiar?

“Turn around…” Ling Mo pressed them against the wall and grabbed their Hair, slowly turning their head. But as soon as he saw their face clearly, Ling Mo froze.

This is…

“Help! Somebody help!”

The voice was filled with terror, and Ling Mo hesitated for a moment, his grip loosening involuntarily. Sensing the change, the person struggled free and dashed out the door.

Ling Mo snapped back to reality a second later and stumbled after him, shouting, “Stop!”

“Skinny Monkey!”

No matter how loudly Ling Mo called, Skinny Monkey continued to flee desperately.

After chasing him in circles, Ling Mo realized they were both trapped in a large hall.

Panting heavily, Ling Mo looked at Skinny Monkey, “Why are you running?”

To his surprise, Skinny Monkey’s eyes were still filled with fear. He shook his head repeatedly, tears streaming down his face as he backed away, saying, “If you’re going to kill me, just do it. Stop playing with me…”

“What are you talking about?” Ling Mo said, his expression darkening.

He glanced around, even checking himself over…

Nothing seemed amiss!

But then, a voice suddenly emerged from behind Ling Mo.

“Hee hee… Didn’t I tell you? I won’t kill you.”

Ling Mo turned around in shock, but there was nothing there. When he looked back, he saw a figure standing before him.

The spiritual body of the underground Progenitor! The little girl!

“What is going on?” Ling Mo stared in bewilderment.

“What do you want…” Skinny Monkey continued to cry out.

Ling Mo realized that Skinny Monkey wasn’t looking at him, but at the little girl standing in front of him.

How had he not noticed her from such a distance?

Could she have been hiding on him?

No… that’s not right… The little girl was dead, her very existence Devoured by him… Even if a main body remained, it couldn’t reappear so soon…

But now, what was happening?!

“Well… I suppose I can tell you,” the little girl said with a mischievous smile as she slowly approached Skinny Monkey. “If he’s not dead… Of course, that’s just hypothetical. Then… it’s your time to shine…”

Her hand touched Skinny Monkey, and he, who was taller than her by half a body, seemed to lose all strength, collapsing against the wall. His legs trembled, his face drenched in cold sweat, while the little girl’s expression was cruel and cunning.

She circled behind Skinny Monkey, placing her hand on his head, whispering, “Seize the opportunity, and… make him mine… Remember?”

“I… I…” Skinny Monkey shook his head, unable to form a coherent sentence.

“This… isn’t up to you,” the little girl said, lifting her head. “Because you’re just human.”

For some reason, when Ling Mo heard this, he felt a jolt.

He suddenly realized that when the little girl said those words, she was looking directly at him!

But Ling Mo had already figured it out; this scene was likely what happened when Skinny Monkey was captured by the little girl… Yet, in this scenario, why would she be speaking to him?
