Mesmerizing Ghost Doctor - Chapter 4940 - Capítulo 4940: Danger
Capítulo 4940: Danger
Old Predecessor Yu walked with his hands behind his back until he reached a tree outside the courtyard. Only then did he let out a soft sigh. “Ah! How could I not know? But now, with his injuries so severe and having come at our invitation, how could we stand by and watch him die?”
He shook his head. “I’ve already sent word to the Zeng family, instructing them to send someone to take him back. It’s also a way of escorting him home.”
Hearing this, Patriarch Yu’s frown eased momentarily before he added, “Old Predecessor, I feel his actions today were unwise. A man like him isn’t worth the Yu family taking such great risks to protect.”
“Enough. I know what I’m doing.” He waved his hand dismissively and departed without another word.
As dusk fell and the sky darkened, a figure slipped silently into the Yu residence. Approaching the well in the rear courtyard, they unscrewed the cap of a small vial and poured a portion of its contents into the water.
The arrival was utterly unnoticed—no one from the Yu household, whether in plain sight or hidden, saw a thing.
When Yue’er awoke, night had already fallen. Stretching lazily and yawning, she stepped out of her courtyard. After inquiring with a servant, she made her way to Old Predecessor Guo’s quarters.
“Grandfather Guo?” Yue’er called out. Seeing no one emerge, she addressed the maid standing outside the courtyard gate, “Is he sleeping too?”
“Probably. The door’s been locked, and he hasn’t come out,” the maid replied, glancing inside before adding, “A welcome banquet is prepared in the front courtyard. The Old Predecessor arranged it especially for the two of you. Young Miss, please go over!”
“A welcome banquet?” Yue’er frowned, pouting slightly. “I hate welcome banquets the most. They’re so boring!” She rolled her eyes in boredom.
Her eyes twinkled mischievously as she grinned. “Here’s what we’ll do! Since he’s still asleep, just tell him when he wakes up that I’ve gone out to explore the night market. He doesn’t need to look for me—I’ll be back later.”
Without waiting for the maid’s response, Yue’er giggled and skipped toward the front gate.
“Huh? Why is the gate broken?” Yue’er arrived at the entrance and was startled to find the gate missing, replaced by several guards standing watch.
“Something happened today. The gate was smashed. It won’t be reinstalled until tomorrow,” explained one guard who recognized her as an honored guest of the household.
“I see,” Yue’er nodded, though inwardly puzzled. Who would dare smash the Yu family’s gate? Old Predecessor Yu had mentioned that their family’s strength had grown after his recent advancement. Yet here was someone attacking their gate—either he wasn’t strong enough, or the attacker was even more formidable.
She shrugged her small shoulders. It wasn’t her concern anyway. Stepping outside, she headed toward the city gates.
“When Mother took us to the night market before, there were so many delicious treats!” Yue’er chattered as she skipped along the street, stopping to examine anything intriguing and buying snacks whenever something tasty caught her eye.
“If only Mother and Brother were here too,” she murmured, blinking her eyes as a wistful expression flitted across her small face.
Unbeknownst to her, Feng Jiu had just left the inn with the two children and Song Mi’er, also heading toward the night market.
“Master, the waiter said the liveliest spot in town is the night market on West Street. Let’s go check it out!” Song Mi’er walked beside them, her pretty face lighting up with eager anticipation.
