Capítulo 4938: Seeking Help
“Alright.” Yue’er smiled brightly in response, glancing at Old Predecessor Guo and adding, “Then I’ll go rest for a while.”
“Very well.” Old Predecessor Guo nodded once, watching her enter the courtyard before following Old Predecessor Yu to another section of the grounds.
Once inside the courtyard, Old Predecessor Yu didn’t leave either. He had tea and pastries served, then sat down at a table in the courtyard. With no outsiders present, Old Master Yu finally asked, “How did you come to call Yun Qi ‘young friend’? What is her background? I see you take great care of her—what is the reason for this?”
“Heh, her? Well, she does come from an extraordinary background. A descendant of my family brought her to the estate. When I heard she was coming this way and I happened to be attending a banquet, I brought her along.” Old Predecessor Guo chuckled. “Don’t let her young age fool you. Her composure and calmness in handling matters are beyond what most children possess.”
Hearing such high praise for a child of five or six, Old Predecessor Yu paused, though he said nothing more. Instead, he inquired about Old Predecessor Guo’s recent years.
After sitting and sipping tea in the courtyard for a while, Old Predecessor Guo stood up with a smile. “Alright then, you should rest for a bit! If we keep chatting, you won’t even have time to rest. Since you’ve come this far, you should definitely stay a few more days. Let’s properly catch up.”
“Alright, you go ahead and attend to your duties!” Old Predecessor Guo also stood up, preparing to escort him out of the courtyard. Just then, a thunderous crash echoed from ahead, accompanied by a surge of air pressure rippling outward.
Hearing the sound, Old Predecessor Yu looked toward the front, his brow furrowing slightly. He said to Old Predecessor Guo, “You rest.” “I’ll go see what’s happening,” he said. With that, he headed outside.
Old Predecessor Guo considered following, but then thought of his own considerable strength after advancing, and the many powerful figures present at the Yu Manor. Even if something serious occurred, they could handle it. Thus, he stood in the courtyard for a moment before turning and walking toward one of the side rooms.
At the Yu family’s main gate, an elderly man was sent flying by a palm strike, crashing into the gate with such force that the entire structure collapsed to the ground.
“Pfft!”
The old man spat out a mouthful of blood, his face deathly pale as he turned to see several figures pursuing him. He struggled to his feet.
“Who dares to cause trouble here!”
Upon hearing the commotion, members of the Yu household rushed out. Seeing the old man lying upside down, coughing up blood near the shattered gate, they froze in shock.
“Who are you?”
A middle-aged man barked the question, his brows knitted tightly as his piercing gaze locked onto the group. There were four of them: two men who appeared to be in their forties or fifties, a woman around thirty, and an elderly man who looked to be in his sixties.
A palpable aura of hostility emanated from them. Their gaze wasn’t fixed on the surrounding crowd, but solely on the old man struggling to rise from the ground.
“Old Master Zeng?”
Old Predecessor Yu, drawn by the commotion, stared in shock at the struggling figure. “Why is it you? What happened?” He hurried forward, reaching out to steady the old man.
“Old Yu, I’m truly sorry for causing you trouble. Cough, cough…” He looked at him apologetically, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he began coughing violently, blood spilling from his mouth.
Pursued relentlessly, with nowhere left to flee, he had sought refuge at the Yu Manor. He’d hoped his old friend, who had recently advanced in cultivation, might protect him. Yet before he even crossed the Yu family’s threshold, the pursuers struck with lethal force.
