The night deepened.

A cold wind swept across the New York City district, and soon, snowflakes began to fall.

In an instant, New York was transformed into a vast, white expanse, the streetlights casting a warm, yellow glow.

Pedestrians hurried along the streets, eager to reach home.

Caesar, cloaked in a long black coat, wandered aimlessly through the quiet streets, looking like a solitary figure. Apocalypse, hunched over like an ancient man, followed silently, his body radiating warmth that melted the snow before it touched him.

“Where does the master wish to go next?” Apocalypse inquired hoarsely.

Caesar didn’t answer, continuing his slow, deliberate pace. He truly didn’t know where he belonged. Though he’d lived in this world for decades, he felt like a drifting reed, rootless and adrift.

He had no home, no family – it didn’t matter where he went.

He used to frequent bars around the world, seeking a fleeting sense of joy. But that pleasure had long since faded. Now, all that remained was the insatiable desire to become stronger – stronger than anyone on Earth, stronger than his former self. But once you surpass all limits, the pursuit of strength loses its meaning.

Boredom.

Utter boredom.

The only reason he still lingered in this X-Men world was the lingering hope of returning to the Marvel universe.

Caesar sighed softly. A single figure came to mind, the only person he truly cared about in this world.

“Let’s go, let’s visit the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters,” Caesar murmured.

In an instant, both he and Apocalypse vanished from the snowy street. No one noticed their disappearance, not even the surveillance cameras, which were momentarily disrupted.

Only two sets of interrupted footprints remained on the snowy road, quickly erased by the falling snow.

…

It was eleven o’clock at night.

On the outskirts of New York, at the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Snow fell heavily, and most students were already tucked away in their dorms.

In the principal’s office, on the fifth floor of the main building, the lights remained on.

A middle-aged man, bald and serene, sat in a specially designed wheelchair by the window, the crackling fire casting dancing shadows. He gazed out at the snow-covered campus, a picture of tranquility.

A figure materialized behind him, draping a coat over his shoulders.

“Principal, it’s time to rest,” Azazel, the Red Devil, said softly.

“Hmm,” Charles murmured, his gaze fixed on the campus below. “That day… it was a quiet night like this. Raven and Caesar, they both burst into my life, into my home.”

“I was just a boy then. Now, I’m nearly an old man,” Charles mused with a wistful smile gracing his lips.

“We’re both growing old,” Azazel acknowledged, his own temples streaked with gray.

“Only Caesar remains unchanged,” Charles sighed. “Twelve years… it feels like an eternity since I last saw him.”

“The Master will always stand supreme,” Azazel declared with reverence.

Charles nodded. “Alright, go rest. I’ll stay here a while longer.”

“As you wish,” Azazel replied, dissolving into a ball of red flame and vanishing.

Charles continued to gaze out the window, lost in thought. Then, footsteps sounded from behind.

“Azazel, why have you returned…” Charles turned, his words catching in his throat. His eyes widened in astonishment.

“Hello, Charles,” A young, handsome man with blond hair greeted him, the same carefree grin he’d worn as a boy.

“Ca-Caesar…”

Charles, in his elderly frame, felt a surge of youthful energy. He stared at Caesar with a mixture of disbelief and joy washing over him. He drew a deep breath and chuckled, “I thought I’d never see you again before I died.”

“Your days are far from over,” Caesar replied, noting the subtle shift in Charles’ demeanor, the renewed vitality that radiated from him despite his aging body. Even in this weakened state, Charles’ spirit was indomitable.

“With your abilities, I could teach you to inhabit another’s body, to live forever,” Apocalypse remarked from behind Caesar, a rare smile gracing his wrinkled face.

“Apocalypse,” Charles’ pupils constricted as he regarded the ancient Mutant. He chuckled bitterly, “No need. This life… it’s enough for me.”

He paused, then looked at Caesar. “You didn’t come here just to see me, did you?”

“What do you think?” Caesar asked with a knowing glint in his eyes.

Charles smiled. “It’s the single room on the right side of the third floor, in the second girls’ dormitory.”

“Do I really need you to tell me?” Caesar vanished in a blur of motion, leaving behind a parting shot, “Apocalypse, keep an eye on Charles. This old man enjoys his mind games.”

“Yes, Master,” Apocalypse replied, his gaze fixed on Charles.

Charles chuckled bitterly. “I haven’t indulged in those games in years.”

In the girls’ dormitory, in the private room Charles had indicated.

The door was firmly shut, but the window was open, moonlight and snowflakes softly illuminating the room.

On the large bed, a young woman with fiery red hair lay peacefully asleep, her hair a vibrant cascade against the white sheets. Her brow was slightly furrowed, and subtle waves of psychic energy emanated from her, filling the room.

Caesar’s movement was imperceptible, a silent apparition. The psychic defenses that normally repelled intruders seemed to falter in his presence, dissolving like mist. Instead, they seemed to swirl around him, curious and intrigued.

“I never thought, after replacing my original body to meet Peggy in the WWII era, I’d be sneaking around to meet my own student,” Caesar mused, a wry smile playing on his lips.

Jean lay peacefully, her sleep undisturbed. Even the chill of the night seemed unable to penetrate her psychic shield. She wore a simple nightgown, its thin fabric revealing the graceful curves of her body, a hint of springtime in the dead of winter.

Twelve years had passed.

The shy little girl who had clung to him had blossomed into a breathtaking young woman.

The little Phoenix had finally grown.

Caesar sighed, his gaze lingering on her sleeping form. He sat beside the bed, gently adjusting the thin blanket that barely covered her.

Jean remained undisturbed, her brow unfurrowing as if sensing his presence, a profound sense of peace settling over her.

Caesar watched her for a long, long time, lost in contemplation. Finally, he rose to his feet.

It was time to go.

He was a visitor in this world, and visitors must eventually depart.

As he turned to leave, a voice echoed through the room, strong and resonant.

“Teacher!”

The wind howled outside, the snow falling with renewed intensity.
